Do you actually wear what you buy?
Do you actually wear what you buy?
You spot a piece of clothing online. It looks amazing on the model (or your favorite influencer). You imagine all the places you could wear it. You justify the price.
And then it arrives.
But weeks later, there it is - still hanging in your wardrobe, tags (often) intact.
Sound familiar?
So many women I work with tell me they’re buying clothes... and still feeling like they have nothing to wear.
So, what’s really going on here - and how can you stop spending money on clothes you don’t actually wear?
Sometimes we shop with our ideal self in mind
The one we think should wear bold colours, structured blazers, or linen dresses on the regular.
Sometimes we shop to match the trends we’re seeing online - even if they don’t quite match our lifestyle or what we actually feel good in.
Sometimes we shop in a rush - looking for a quick fix to a style rut or confidence wobble.
But whatever the reason, it’s easy to wind up with a wardrobe that looks full… yet doesn’t feel like you.
That doesn’t mean you’ve failed at personal style. It just means something deeper is worth exploring.
Why did you buy it?
And what’s really stopping you from wearing it?
A piece of clothing can stay unworn for lots of reasons
Maybe the fit’s off. Maybe the fabric’s uncomfortable. Maybe the colour doesn’t do you any favours.
But more often, it’s because the item doesn’t align with your true style - or the way you actually live your life.
That mismatch can leave you second-guessing every outfit you put on, which is often when I hear from women who are ready to get out of the cycle.
(And if that’s where you’re at, you might also enjoy this blog: What to wear when nothing feels right. It explores why your go-to outfits can suddenly stop working… and what to do instead.)
Next time you're eyeing up something new, try pausing to ask:
Does this reflect how I want to feel in my clothes?
Can I name 3 places I’d wear it in the next month?
Does it work with pieces I already own and love?
Am I buying this for me, or because it looks good on someone else?
Do I feel good in it right now - not “once I lose weight / get a tan / find the right shoes”?
These questions don’t take long - but they can save you a lot of money, wardrobe clutter, and “meh” outfit days.
But more importantly, these questions bring you back to yourself - your style, your body, your actual life.
And if you still feel unsure? That’s what I’m here for.
